Music Videos

I really enjoy all of the music videos we are being shown in class. Music videos have always interested me, I am the kind of person that when I hear a song that I like I am interested to see what the music video is. It gives me a different sense of what the artist wanted the song to mean, along with my own view of what the song means. Sometimes the music videos ruin the song but most of the time it just shows me a different perspective on what the artist wanted to portray. The video taping and effects are really interesting in the videos we were shown in class because they were all done so long ago that its cool to see what they could do back then.

Xerox Project and Response

The xerox project was a very interesting one. I had no idea what direction I was going to take this in so I decided to just xerox my body and see what happens. After xeroxing almost my entire body I cut out all of the different pieces and laid them out all over the floor. I thought the limbs were the most interesting objects that were xeroxed, so I decided to put them together and create a new creature of my own. I started with my head on top, and went down connecting my arms and legs randomly to create its own shape. My end result was a weird, awkward, creature with my head on the top. My xerox was not what I thought it would end up as, but I think that the process was fun, and the end result was funny and interesting. I enjoyed this project a lot and really enjoyed seeing what other people did with the assignment.

To the class:

Taylor- I really liked your project. I liked that you used a mirror because it was very different, and showed a literally side of seeing yourself. I also liked the idea of adding color to the flowers, it made it very pretty and much more interesting.
Adam- I liked your idea of only using your hands. It was very cool with the different sizes that you made them.
Mikaela- I thought your idea of xeroxing different things, not only your body was interesting. I liked the image you xeroxed of a book with your favorite quote underlined because sometimes quotes help describe your feelings more than your body can.
Murat- I liked that you used your project to show your culture. With your hands, spartan id, and all of the designs in the background I thought that all together the project turned out very well.
Coleen- I really liked that you printed your images onto colored paper. It made it very different. I also liked the idea that you used with showing things that people want like money, love, and peace.
Ryan- Your xerox project was very cool and different. The idea that more images appear when the light turned on was so interesting. You can tell you put a lot of thought and effort into making it.
Bernadette- Your xerox project was really interesting. I loved how your hair turned out on the page, it looked really cool. You didnt really need the second page but the whole idea put together was very interesting. I also thought the "property of US gov't" was a really funny idea.
Ashley- Your xerox project was really cool. I liked that you used your fitness name tag in it because it is a part of your life.
Matthew- I liked that you used motion in your project. No one else in the class experimented with that and I thought the outcome was really cool and different.
Laura- I liked how different your xerox project was. I thought it was nice that you were able to incorporate dragons into your xerox project by using your hands, it turned out really good.
Ciara- Your xerox project was really funny. I liked the funny picture you turned your images into.
Shawn- Your project was very clear. I think you used a scanner which made the pictures come out more clear. I also liked the way you displayed your images to the class.
Stacey- I really liked your project. As I know, you love butterflies so I loved that you made your own image of a butterfly by using copies of pictures of your hands. It turned out really cool.
Victor- You xerox project was really cool. I like that it was random, and I also like the squares you used, I think it made it much cooler.

Grid Art Response

John- your grid art was really creative, I liked that you used coffee to make out the giraffe, it was very different and creative.
Victor- I liked that you incorporated pac man into your grid art. The idea of using a pan as pac man was very creative.
Coleen- I liked that you used your eyes as the main part of your grid art. It came out really good.
Ryan- Although yours wasn't exactly considered "grid art" I still think your pac man idea was really good and your drawings were also very good as well.
Bernadette- I liked your flower grid art. I remember using that when I was younger so seeing you making it out of that was really cool.
Matt- I liked that your grid art was more of an installation. It was very different and used different aspects of the class in it as well.
Adam- Your grid art was really cool. I liked that you used light to portray your grid, it came out really good.
Murat- Your grid art was very different, I liked that you used different materials and wrote your name and the schools name as well.
Ashley- Your art came out very nice. Although it was not considered to be a grid I still think that the overall picture was a success.
Shawn- I liked that you used the game chess as your grid. It was really creative and turned out nice.
Brendan-Your grid art came out really well. The shading with the pencils was really interesting.

Performance Art Responces

Taylor- I liked your performance art a lot. It was very different and showed your view on technology. I like that your point is that technology does not make you an individual which is a nice message.
Adam- Really great performance, the different types of music really added to it by changing up your rythems and tunes to move to. I also liked that you used your friend as your canvas because that made it more interesting overall.
John- Your idea was really funny and realistic. Music is being used as background music for whatever people are doing in their lives, especially with the iphones these days. So I really liked your performance and can relate to it also.
Bernadette- Your performance was very creative. I liked that you choose cherries because the color and texture made it much more dramatic. I thought the whole idea was very good.
Ashley-I can relate to your performance. Having the sounds of technology in the background while I get ready for my days and nights happens a lot. I thought your idea was portrayed well.
Laura- I thought your performance was very funny. With video games these days if something breaks it could really cause a problem and annoy people. The acting that you did was very funny and I enjoyed watching it.
Ciara- Your idea for your performance art was very good. The fact that you didnt just reveal the artwork you did, but then turned it around to show "technology reveals art" was very good and powerful. I enjoyed this a lot.
Shawn- The idea of your performance art was perfect for todays times. People dont need to be talented to play music anymore is so true. Your performance was very funny and realistic I liked that you got into it and showed your emotion it definately made your performance enjoyable.
Ryan- I thought your performance was very very good. I loved that you put all of the sounds of your day into a song, while talking about them. The phone call that you got in the middle was funny and perfect for your performance. It turned out very well and entertaining. It was very creative.
Stacey- I liked your performance a lot. These days everyone is so into their technology that they feel as if without it they would die, but you showed people that you dont have all of your technology right now and your still alive..it showed a good idea and overall message.
Coleen- I liked seeing your view on technology because it was very interesting. Technology definately does enhance beauty these days. It can make ugly people pretty, and pretty people even prettier, and just overall change the look of someone. It was a very good, creative idea.
Brendan- Your idea was very different. The interaction with the class was nice. Although we all guessed the wrong song for your art, I enjoyed looking at your art work and listening to the song that you were listening to while being inspired to paint it was a very cool experience.
Murad- I thought your performance piece was very good and different. It was very funny how you had your friend wrapped up like a christmas tree, I also enjoyed listening to you talk about how things are different in your country because I am very interested in different cultures and different places around the world.
Victor- Your performance was very entertaining. You are a very good guitar player. I liked that you were showing how fast you could produce and print a cd of it in under 5 minutes. It was a very creative cool idea.
Makayla- I loved your performance. It is so funny because it happens so much these days, you dont even realize and people will be eating and 10 minutes later realize that no conversation has been exchanged, everyone is just texting. Texting is taking over and it seems as if soon relationships will be solely based around texting instead of actually communicating.
Matt- Very creative. All of the windows sounds actually ends up turning into stand by me which I thought was great. At first I didnt know where you were going with it, but in the end it was great and really creative.

Brookhaven Video Game

I read the article on the Brookhaven video game from the nytimes.com. This article was very interesting. It is all about video games and their success over the years. The first video game that was made was called tennis for two and was a very simple, easily operated game. From then on everyone was hooked on video games, from pac man to rock band, people are so overly obsessed with video games. I find it crazy how much time people spend playing video games and all of the different games that have came out over the years. The realistic characters are one of the things that really amaze me, it really shows how much technology has improved over all of the years. From a half a century ago until now video games went from being a little green ball going across a blank screen, to being able to create your own person on your video game to represent you, play music, and so much more. I have never been a big video game player myself, but I do really like Wii. I find it crazy what you can do with video games. This article was really interesting and informative on all of the different games throughout the years.

Performance Art

This project took me a little while to get started on. I thought for a while about how I could portray my relationship to technology in an interesting way. I am on my phone a lot as most of the class probably knows by now and it becomes a problem sometimes. Not only my phone but I use the computer a lot as well as watch many different tv series'. I decided to add up all of the time that I have been "wrapped up" in technology throughout my whole life, it turned out to be a ridiculous amount of time (over 3 years). That really blew me away. I made a powerpoint of all of the math I did to figure out how much time I have spent using technology, and while that was playing behind me I sat texting on my cell phone while being wrapped up by all of the different cords and chargers that go to the technology I use in my life. Technology is such a big part in everyones lives today that it seems as if without technology, no one would know what to do with themselves.

Grid Art

I really enjoyed this project. When I was first thinking of ideas a lot of ideas were going through my head, I knew I wanted to use color and be a little creative with what to use for my grid. I ended up using a badminton racket as my grid, and weaving different materials like pipe cleaners, ribbons, lace, pom poms, and other materials into the racket to form a swirly lollipop. It took a lot of time and I loved the end result. I really enjoyed seeing what ideas everyone else in the class came up with, the creativity that everyone has is really great and inspiring.
